Schreiber, Cepeda, Talancón, Harring and Negrao join a roster of talent that already includes Oscar nominee Javier Bardem, Benjamin Bratt, Golden Globe nominees John Leguizamo and Hector Elizondo and transatlantic actress Giovanna Mezzogiorno. The film is being adapted for the screen by Oscar winner Ron Harwood for director Mike Newell.
Scott Steindorff will produce; Stone Village execs Dylan Russell and Michael Roban as well as Chris Law will serve as executive producers; Stone Village exec Scott Lastaiti will take a co-producer credit alongside Brantley Dunaway. Love in the Time of Cholera is the evocative story of an unrequited love between Florentino (Bardem) and Fermina (Mezzogiorno), spanning five decades in turn-of-the-20th-century South America. Schreiber plays Lotario Thugut, a telegram operator who befriends Florentino and takes him under his wing, teaching him the ways of women. All playing conquests of Florentino, Cepeda has been cast as Widow Nazaret, Talancón as Olimpia Zuleta, Harring as Sara Noriega and Negrao as Rosalba.
"In his novel, Gabriel García Márquez created one remarkably vivid character after another. We are thrilled to have Liev, bringing the wonderful, multi-faceted Lotario alive on screen and excited for Angie, Ana Claudia, Laura and Rubria to breathe life into the different women that Florentino romances," said Stone Village producer Scott Steindorff.
