Stone Village Pictures Timed to Take International on 'Cholera' International Star Giovanna Mezzogiorno Joins Bardem in 'Love' April 24, 2006 – Los Angeles – Stone Village Pictures will fully finance and assume all international rights to 'Love in the Time of Cholera', it was announced today by Stone Village Pictures’ Scott Steindorff. The film, budgeted at 35-40 million, is set to begin production in Brazil August 15. Additionally, StoneVillage announced that transatlantic actress Giovanna Mezzogiorno has joined the cast alongside Academy Award nominee Javier Bardem. Based on the novel by acclaimed writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez and lauded as one of the greatest love stories of all time, 'Love in the Time of Cholera' is the evocative story of an unrequited love that spans over fifty years in turn-of-the-century South America. Adapted for the screen by Oscar winner Ron Harwood, Cholera will be directed by Mike Newell. Scott Steindorff will produce; Stone Village execs Dylan Russell and Michael Roban as well as Chris Law will serve as executive producers; Stone Village exec Scott Lastaiti will take a co-producer credit alongside Brantley Dunaway. “We are enthused to bring this epic love story to the world,” said Stone Village producer Scott Steindorff. “Casting Giovanna Mezzogiorno echoes our commitment to creating a genuine international film which mirrors the global appeal of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.” Summit Entertainment is handling foreign sales in Cannes and beyond on behalf of Stone Village. Domestically, the film will be released by New Line. ICM’s Jeff Berg orchestrated the deal between Stone Village and New Line. Born in Rome, Mezzogiorno is the daughter of actors Vittorio and Cecilia Sacchi. Her film credits include Don’t Tell, which was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category and garnered Mezzogiorno the Coppa Volpi for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival. Mezzogiorno also starred in Virginia, Facing Windows, Nobel, The Last Kiss, All There is to Know, The Bride’s Journey and Facing. |
