The original script by Leslie Caveny (“Everybody Loves Raymond”) is a modern day offbeat fable about a young woman, Penelope, who suffers from a “curse,” but sets out to end her life-long streak of bad luck and find her true self.
Mark Palansky, who directed the award-winning short films "Shutter" and "The Same" will make his feature film directing debut. His other credits include Wimbledon, BBC’s “State of Play” and the upcoming Starter for Ten and The Last King of Scotland.
O’Hara and Grant will co-star as Jessica and Franklin Wilhern, Penelope’s parents . Dinklage was nominated for Independent Spirit and Screen Actors Guild awards for his breakthrough performance in The Station Agent. Other credits include The Baxter, Elf and Sidney Lumet’s upcoming Find Me Guilty. Dinklage will star as Lemon, a reporter obsessed with photographing Penelope.
PENELOPE is set to begin shooting this month in the United Kingdom.
Stone Village will finance the picture. This will be the first in a slate of upcoming films financed by Stone Village. According to producer Scott Steindorff, "Leslie Caveny has written a wonderful script and we couldn’t be happier to have James, Catherine and Peter joining Christina and Reese in lending their considerable talents to the project.”
Stone Village will finance pictures on a selective basis, coming from a fiscally conservative approach. Stone Village partners include Scott Steindorff, Andrew Molasky, Danny and Robin Greenspun.
Steindorff recently wrapped the John Stockwell-helmed feature "Turistas" and was nominated for an Emmy as an Executive Producer for HBO's "Empire Falls," which received 10 Emmy nominations, including Best Miniseries, as well as several Golden Globe nominations including Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television. Other forthcoming Stone Village features include "Love in the Time of Cholera" and "The Tortilla Curtain."
Founded in 1999 by Reese Witherspoon, Type A Films is a feature film production company whose initial project was Legally Blonde II: Red, White & Blonde. The company is developing a slate of pictures including the Paramount thriller, The Reckoning.
