FOX LATIN AMERICA ACQUIRES ALL LATIN
AMERICAN RIGHTS TO
STONE VILLAGE PICTURES’ LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA
Holiday Release Planned
LOS ANGELES, CA – September 28,
2007 – Fox Latin America nabbed all Latin American rights to Stone
Village Pictures’ highly anticipated Love in the Time of Cholera,
it was announced today by Fox Latin America’s executive vice president
Eduardo Echeverria and Stone Village partner/producer Scott Steindorff.
Based on the acclaimed book by the Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel
García Márquez, Love in the Time of Cholera was directed by Mike
Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral), adapted for the screen by
Academy Award winner Ronald Harwood (The Pianist) and produced by
Steindorff.
Fox is planning a December holiday release for the film in Central and
South American territories, following its November 16 Stateside release
from New Line Cinema. Ray Strache, director of acquisitions for
Twentieth Century Fox, brought the title into the Fox fold while Summit
Entertainment handled international sales on behalf of Stone Village
Pictures. The deal was negotiated by Fox business affairs executive
Megan O’Brien and by partner/head of business affairs Andrew Molasky on
behalf of Stone Village. The film will mark its world premiere in early
October at the prestigious Rio Film Festival.
"We at Fox in Latin America are thrilled with this amazing and
spectacular film that brings justice to the brilliant, romantic novel
from Gabriel García Márquez,” stated Echeverria. “Moviegoers all over
the region and beyond will be blown away by Mike Newell’s masterpiece.
We will not leave any stone unturned to ensure that Love in the Time of
Cholera receives the largest audience ever for a Latin novel turned into
a film.”
“We can’t imagine a better homecoming for Love in the Time of Cholera
than through Fox Latin America,” said Stone Village Pictures partner and
producer Scott Steindorff. “No one is better prepared than Fox to
shepherd Cholera home to the countries responsible for the book and
García Márquez’ global success.”
Love in the Time of Cholera spans a half-century in the complex,
magical and sensual city of Cartagena, Columbia. This sweeping, romantic
epic tells the story of a man who waits over fifty years for his one
true love, and features a lauded cast including Academy Award nominees
Javier Bardem, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Fernanda Montenegro, as well
as Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Benjamin Bratt, Hector Elizondo and Golden
Globe nominee John Leguizamo.
